This game cost us $25,000 to build. The difference between buying and building is the 3-4 months of debugging and perfecting a game like this. It's hard to explain just how many issues have to be resolved for a smooth/running Universal app across devices and iOS versions.
Also, in my experience, spending even $25,000 to build a game like this doesn't typically result in an icon, UI screen and sound design as well thought-out and meticulously manicured as Carnival Lights. Download it, launch it, look closely at the graphics, listen to the sound design. Would be very difficult to build game like this for less than $25,000 AND get good reviews and no bugs in less than 4 months.
Who wants to spend 4 months storyboarding, designing, creating custom audio, professional icons, coding, testing and debugging when you can buy a finished perfected app and build on that instead? I've been doing this awhile.
We went thru 50 iterations on the icon alone for this app!
If you are looking to build a portfolio of games, Carnival Lights will definitely get you started on the right track and lend credibility to your business.
